Privacy Issues In Cyberspace
At the dawn of the 1990's privacy was not so much an issue as it is in our current time. This is due to cyberspace being governed by certain laws. These laws refrain others from divulging and accessing certain items in each other's lives. The government also plays a major role in privacy laws. Some governments may breach these laws to attain information, other governments may use these laws to stop others from attaining outside information. But it has been a case were the personal information being given out by media users are used to communicate with one another.
How does media engage you?
Evolution of technology in the current century has changed faster than we ever expected. For an example we would never imagine posting in a blog like this for a school assignment 10 years ago. So what has changed between the forms of media we used 10 years ago to the forms of media we use today? A decade ago we had computers the size of a room and now we have smart phones that overwhelm the capabilities of those pre-historic technological items.
We dont have to go so far anymore to have access to technology, when we can just place our hands in our pockets and have access to the internet. Last night I was watching an episode of how I Met Your Mother : 'Mystery vs. History' This episode kicks off with the primary characters arguing
over what is the most consumed food product in America back in 2005. Then they
flash back to 2011 were the use of smart phones has helped them to obtain the
answer. One of the main characters: Ted, has had some bad past relationship
experiences due to his friends looking up all the girls he has dated and
discovered their disturbing history. So he decides to go on a date with the
deal of not consulting any information from the Internet about his date. The
date starts off in an awkward manner as he was so used to knowing information
prior to his previous dates that he had no appropriate topics of conversation
with his date. But with the help of his smartphone he finds out her history
when she is in the bathroom and gets intimidated and pretty much messes up the
date.
Watching this episode made me notice that we do not rely on our general knowledge or curiosity anymore but we rather use our new forms of media to take over our old abilities. So it does make me think. In 5 more years will we still see the need to get out of the house anymore to discover new items of knowledge, or will we rely on our personal media to do it for us.
